Remote desktop and gaming
OctaSpace remote gaming feature based on Linux KDE Plasma Desktop access using Selkies project video/audio streaming with WebRTC protocol which ensures image quality and relatively low input latency. This remote desktop allow you to use any Linux native applications and games like those ones available via Steam as well as some Windows games available via compatibility applications like Proton and Wine. There is preinstalled Steam client, Heroic and Lutris launchers which will help in games installation. You still need to own games to play using remote desktop and have Steam account for Steam access. You can check sites like https://www.protondb.com/explore to find list of games that will run good on remote Linux desktop. Please note that games that actively using anti-cheat software will not work fine due to detection of virtualization that used to run desktop.
There is two apps available for running remote desktop with gaming support: Octa GLX Desktop - providing better performance for games because of using native X server and Nvidia driver which ensures that game running on native performance. Octa EGL Desktop - providing better compatibility for games because of using virtual X server. Also performance should not be a problem for modern video card. General rule of thumb when choosing between these two images - if the desired game is not working on one desktop type, please try running it using another one.
Deploy either "Octa EGL Desktop" or "Octa GLX Desktop" application as described in Marketplace documentation. You will have HTTP link in session details available for accessing desktop. After opening link you will see connection progress during which desktop remote access opened and configured. When connection will establish you will see desktop screen. There is also half-cirlcle button at the right-border of the screen which provide connection details and access to additional settings. For example, you can set video or audio bitrate for optimal performance. Also you can enable "Resize remote to fit window" to have remote desktop automatically scale to your browser window size.
There is a special shortcut "Ctrl+Shift+F" to switch browser window with remote desktop to full screen. After switching to full screen you can press and hold "Esc" key to exit back to windowed mode. Also when gaming in some games that require mouse grab you need to press "Ctrl+Shift+<Left Mouse Click>" for cursor lock in remote desktop.
Steam client is preinstalled on remote desktop, you can run it from Application > Games menu (as well as other launchers). You will need to login to Steam using your account. If you would like to play games available for Windows only you need to enable "Enable Steam Play for all other title" in Steam settings on Compatibility tab.
The list is not exhaustive and will be expanded in the future. Games from below list was tested on Octa gaming platform and working perfectly without issues.
